The
British
competition
for
a £60,000
(360,000
zlotys)
house
was
resolved
in London.
The
Buma
Group
from
Kraków
was
included
among
the
finalists
as a
member
of the
UK Countryside
Consortium.
Five
most
interesting
designs
were
presented
at the
London
Building
Centre.
The
star
of the
exhibition
was
a show
house
presented
by the
SixtyK
Consortium:
a small
two-level
house,
with
the
floor
area
of 76.5
m2,
made
of timber
panel
walls.
The
pioneering
competition
initiated
by Vice
Prime
Minister
John
Prescott,
who
was
the
host
of the
finals,
was
intended
to identify
inexpensive
and
architecturally
interesting
single-family
houses.
That
intention
was
completely
fulfilled.
The
organisers
obtained
a number
of £60K
designs
(when
a flat
in London
is ca.
£100-200K
or more),
developed
by large
UK and
foreign
companies.
The
SixtyK
Consortium
house
presented
on our
pictures
is composed
of a
living
room,
kitchen,
WC,
two
bedrooms
and
a bathroom.
The
designers
also
provided
enough
space
for
two
wardrobes
on the
first
floor.
The
Kraków
proposal
concerns
a modular
house.
The
awarded
designs
will
be actually
executed
in the
UK,
in the
form
of estates
on selected
plots.
The
Countryside
Consortium
obtained
land
to construct
37 houses
in Kent.
