Wooden
homes
combating
shortage
Wooden
homes
which
take
just
five
days
to construct
are
tackling
the
shortage
of affordable
housing
in south
London.
A
block
of eight
one-bedroom
and
two-bedroom
flats
is taking
shape
on wasteland
near
Stockwell
Tube
station.
Hyde
Housing
Association
is building
the
modular
homes,
created
by Polish
firm
BUMA,
to house
key
workers.
The
steel-framed
flats
should
last
60 years
and
can
be moved.
They
are
cheap
to build
and
environmentally
friendly,
exceeding
insulation
standards.
Just
six
people
will
be needed
to complete
the
construction
which
does
not
require
scaffolding.
Hyde
has
planning
permission
to build
another
block
of the
modules
in Wyndham
Road,
in Camberwell,
and
is seeking
permission
for
another
16 flats
on another
site
in Stockwell.
