Pychowice are a part of the Special Economic Zone of Krakow. The 3rd campus of the Jagiellonian University is being developed on more than 35 hectares (among other things, the buildings for several of its Institutes have already been built), with primarily high-tech investments being allowed here, due to the intention to keep the unique natural and landscape features of this area. At the beginning of May, Motorola moved into the new Green Office (in the foreground) (in the fall it will also occupy the second building). It represents one of three buildings being constructed by the Buma Group in this neighbourhood.
Krakow offers great conditions to anyone wanting to invest in the high-tech sector, because of the support from city authorities and the opportunities stemming from locating an investment project in a special economic zone. The zone also includes an area in Pychowice, a north-western part of Krakow that is continuously growing and gaining new residential and commercial buildings.
"It is very good that environmentally-friendly developments are being built in this very part of the city. The spatial development plan for this area strictly defines its nature and the rules for building in it. This is because residents, city authorities and developers want to maintain a balance in nature, to emphasise the valuable landscape of this place. The city engages in its development not only by drawing up the spatial development plan, but also by building public roads and reconstructing existing ones to ensure good transport between university facilities, office centres and other buildings and the rest of Krakow. Thus, the appeal of Pychowice as a place to live and work will increase" – says Kazimierz Bujakowski, Krakow Mayor's advisor for developments.
In 2006, the Jagiellonian University launched the Life Science Cluster as a joint venture of companies and institutions brough together by modern, high technologies. Five years ago, there were 32 of them, now there are 66: universities/colleges, scientific research institutes, hospitals, laboratories etc. The project is coordinated by Jagiellońskie Centrum Innowacji sp. z o.o. New facilities are being built to form the Małopolska IT Park. The Jagiellonian University Campus, Motorola at new offices built by the Buma Group, Onet, ITI and other institutions of this type are significant as they represent several thousand new jobs, also for graduates of Krakow's universities and colleges.
The Green Office development being built by the Buma Group in Pychowice contributes to this strategy. The energy-saving technology for fitting all systems in the buildings, alternative energy sources (solar thermal and photovoltaic panels), interiors amiable to people thanks to environmentally-friendly materials, a charging point for electric vehicles, lighting controlled by motion sensors, less noise and waste: such solutions improve the occupants’ working comfort and protect the environment. Greenery will cover one third of the area to be developed by the Buma Group, which is very important for the neighbourhood.
