The BUMA Group, a developer based in Krakow, has commissioned the ONYX office building in the southern part of the city, in Powstańców Śląskich 26. This is the fourth project of its type completed by the BUMA Group in Krakow.
After 12 months, construction finished on the ONYX office building, a four-storey B+ project with the area of 6,573 sq m. It fits very well in the neighbourhood in which it was built - 300 m away from the Matecznego Roundabout, where the Warsaw-Zakopane route intersects the exit road leading from the city to the ring road and the Balice Airport. “It is a small, cosy building with interesting architecture” emphasises Monika Franaszek of the BUMA Group. “It is leased by two companies: Electrolux and Skanska S.A.”
The main tenant is Electrolux (Electrolux Poland Sp. z o.o.), occupying 88 per cent of the building. It has opened its Global Service Centre there, which focuses on providing accounting, IT, user guide and real estate services to the corporation. At the moment, Electrolux employs some 320 staff, but in 2-3 years their number is to rise to 500-550. As Marcin Trzaskowski, the administrative head of Electrolux remarks, it will soon welcome students, particularly of economics fields, who apart from English have a command of more unusual languages (e.g. Hungarian, Finnish, Swedish or Danish). Recruitment interviews have been taking place for three years now.
Electrolux will occupy three floors. Its previous location was in Wadowicka St., in another Buma Group office building: the Buma Square Business Park. The company’s relationship with the BUMA Group goes back some 4 years already. “We initiated our operations in Kraków in September 2005” - Marcin Trzaskowski says. “The Centre has grown in strength, one proof of which is commissioning this building. In Wadowicka St., we leased some 2,200 sq m, which has now grown to 4,100 sq m.”
The remaining tenants of the ONYX office building is Skanska SA, occupying 847 sq m on the fourth floor since November, and the operator of the 187 sq m cafeteria on the ground floor. The grounds of the ONYX building also include a car park: 114 ground-level spaces and 42 underground.
The building has been designed by the Krakow-based MOFO Architects. The architecture of the ONYX building ensures maximum possible daylight illumination of the interior. The name of the building is no accident. The facade has the gleam and colour resembling onyx, a semi-precious stone. Other trademark features of the building are the terraces on the 3rd and 4th floors as well as its external illumination.
The BUMA Group has so far completed office developments with the lettable space exceeding 55,000 sq m (including: the Buma Square Business Park and the Rondo Business Park, Krakow). In addition, the Buma Group has built over 1,700 apartments and 270 detached houses.
