Our colleague from the editorial office of Dziennik Polski daily won in this year's edition of the Małopolska Region Journalists' Award Competition in the category of the press – the news.
This was already the seventh edition of that competition for journalists from the Region of Małopolska, held under the patronage of the Office of the Regional Assembly. "This is the first time when I' m taking part in such a ceremony, but I think this will not be the last one," joked Ms. Ewa Piłat, when she was collecting her award. On 14 March 2009 she was the first journalist, who wrote in Dziennik Polski daily abut a Ms. Mary, aged 84 and suffering from memory losses, who was summoned to appear in the court to be tried for a damage valued at 4.74 Polish zlotys (ca. 1.1 euro).
The winners in the remaining categories were as follows: the press – social journalism: Wojciech Pelowski from Gazeta Wyborcza daily; Radio – the news: Maciej Grzyb from RMF FM radio, Radio – social journalism: Magdalena Wadowska from Radio Kraków Małopolska; TV – the news: Szymon Jadczak and Maciej Kuciel from TVN TV; TV – social journalism: Magdalena Hejda from TV Kraków; Photojournalist: Andrzej Banaś from Gazeta Krakowska daily; the Internet: Marcin Godowski from Interia web portal; Local Journalist: Marek Mędela from Radio Kraków; Sports: Przemysław Franczak from Gazeta Krakowska daily. A special honourable mention for multimediality was granted to Dariusz Zalewski from TK FM radio. Justyna Kowalczyk, the Olympic gold medallist, was chosen the media personality of the year.
During the award gala, in the course of a special auction, the amount of more than 6,000 Polish zlotys was collected and donated to the Day Social Care Centre in the district of Kazimierz, where disadvantaged children can spend time after school. The event sponsors included Kraków Power Plant, Jupiter, and PLUS GSM.
