Mr. Przemysław Franczak for his charm, humour and competence in commentating on sports events, and Mr. Andrzej Banaś for his sophisticated photos which tell stories without any unnecessary words: our colleagues and associates were granted last Friday the Małopolska Region Journalist Awards in the categories of sports and photojournalists.
It's a well-known fact: when somebody is writing about a soccer match, and the ball, even the one which is going into the goal is not in the focus of his attention, this must obviously be our Przemysław. An it's also a well-known fact that if somebody is, with a comparable passion, making photos of beautiful women, nasty politicians, or sweaty soccer players, this must obviously be our Andrzej. Both are outstanding and original, with great passions and skills, which the award chapter has noticed and appreciated.
There were plenty of emotions that evening. During a great gala in the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology there were as many as four our journalists, who were nominated for the awards. In addition to those who climbed the podium, there also were Ms. Anna Górka (Local Journalist) and Mr. Michał Okła (Photojournalist). This year they were not lucky, but maybe next year… Who knows?
Przemysław was smiling from ear to ear and was in a brilliant mood. "I had a good mind to say something funny but my wife warned me that all those who tell jokes in such moments come out worst. And since I sometimes obey my wife, I will say today only: Thank you!" said Przemysław.
Andrzej Banaś thanked the editorial staff and his colleagues. "I hope to learn still much from them," he stressed.
However, there was not too much talking. An extraordinary show of the Brazilian capoeira, presented by the Kraków section of Unicar, which has its schools all over the world, added variety to the gala. After the official part and congratulations, we could listen to the blues played by the Ustronsky group. Swaying and swinging, we started the great auction. That of course was a charitable auction.
Prizes were donated by well-known personages from Kraków, including among them the mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski (fountain pen), Regional Governor Stanisław Kracik, Chairman of the Regional Assembly Marek Nawara (engravings), Professor Czesław Dźwigaj (stained-glass window design), Jan Gołębiowski (picture), Danuta Grechuta (discography of late Marek Grechuta's recordings).
We managed to collect the amount of more than 6,000 Polish zlotys. The money will be donated to the Day Social Care Centre in the district of Kazimierz, where disadvantaged children can spend time after school, do their homework, and have a meal.
The feast almost reminded those traditional, old Polish ones. Splendid beverages and dishes were laid on by top restaurants: Pod Aniołami, Pod Baranem, Cosa Nostra, Zbrojownia, Ars Modi and Edo Sushi Bar.
The journalists' gala would not have taken place without the support from our sponsors: Kraków Power Plant, Jupiter, PLUS GSM, BUMA Group, Europejskie Housing Estate, as well as Wieliczka Salt Mine.
