The Buma Group, a Krakow-based developer, is launching an exhibition of fine art work called “Expositio Buma” - Entrepreneurship in Krakow's Architecture. The preview of works by students of the Krakow University of Technology is combined with the official opening of the ONYX office building, commissioned in the autumn 2008. The purpose of the exhibition is to promote Krakow's entrepreneurship-related architecture in business circles.
"Expositio BUMA" - Entrepreneurship in Krakow's Architecture is an exhibition organised at the turn of 2008 and 2009 thanks to the involvement of scientific circles of students from the Krakow University of Technology. 20 works depicting historical and current buildings in Krakow associated with entrepreneurship were completed within 5 weeks by young architects. From these works, the jury recognised three, whose authors received cash prizes of: PLN 3,000 (1st place), PLN 2,000 (2nd place) and PLN 1,000 (3rd place). The works were produced using various techniques, including pastel, oil, and pencil.
The authors of works for “Expositio BUMA” selected from 35 buildings chosen by the organiser. The most popular properties depicted by the students were: the Biprostal Building, Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) and Kamienica Margrabska. The works were judged by a jury consisting of: Zenon Remi, Architect (Jury Chairman), Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski (Chief Architect of the City of Krakow), Professor Leszek Mikulski (Pro-Dean for Student Affairs), Borys Czarakcziew (Chairman, Małopolska District Architects' Chamber), Jarosław Knap (Małopolski Przegląd Nieruchomości, a periodical), Adam Urbanik (Krakow Branch, Polish State Television). Cash prizes went to Konrad Stafiński, a student of the 3rd year of Architecture and Urban Planning from the Krakow University of Technology (1st place), Anna Wójcik, 1st year of Architecture and Urban Planning at that University (2nd place) and Marcin Kitala, 1st year of Architecture and Urban Planning at the same school (3rd place).
“I believe that 'Expositio BUMA' will contribute to promoting Krakow, also as a place of robust business growth” - said Piotr Michalski, representing the BUMA Group. “We plan to promote this exhibition in business circles and elsewhere”, he added.
After its first showing, the exhibition will also travel to other venues associated with business in Krakow, which will include office buildings: the Rondo Business Park and the BUMA Square. The honorary patrons of the “Expositio BUMA” exhibition were: the Mayor of Krakow - Professor Jacek Majchrowski, Ph.D., the Rector of the Krakow University of Technology - Professor Kazimierz Furtak, Ph.D., Eng., and the Małopolska District Architects' Chamber.
The “Expositio Buma” - Entrepreneurship in Krakow’s Architecture preview was combined with the official opening of the ONYX office building commissioned by the BUMA Group in October 2008. This four-storey B+ facility, 6,000 m2 in area, took 12 months to build. The main tenant is Electrolux (Electrolux Poland Sp. z o.o.), Skanska S.A., the Buma Group. ONYX is located in south Krakow, at 26 Powstańców Śląskich Ave.
The Buma Group comprises companies cooperating since 1991 on developments. So far, the BUMA Group has completed office developments with the lettable area of over 55,000 m2 (including: the Buma Square Business Park and the Rondo Business Park, both in Krakow). The Buma Group has also built 1,700 apartments and 270 detached houses.
